Workplace psychiatric injuries: a Brisbane defendant lawyer’s perspective

It’s always a pleasure (and daunting when presenting from a podium) to share our years of knowledge about Queensland law in relation to workers’ compensation.

Hughes and Lewis Legal presented a defendant lawyer’s perspective of workplace psychiatric injuries at the Australian Lawyers Alliance conference in Brisbane.

It’s an important topic, particularly in our current climate which has seen mental illness become more prevalent and a sharp increase in psychiatric injury claims.

The presentation provides plaintiff lawyers and barristers with some insight into the emotions and effect claims have on employers, drilling down on data and growth areas relevant to psychiatric injury claims, and detailing how we’re managing these complex and sensitive matters.

A dual approach needs to be taken to psychiatric injury claims. Investigation and evidence will always be important, but so is delivery. Knowing and appreciating the other side’s triggers, making key points appropriately and remembering the human side to psychiatric injury claims are also integral to obtaining a good result.

I will be presenting this topic again at the Burke & Wills Hotel, Toowoomba on 23 September 2021. Tickets can be purchased via Australian Lawyers Alliance.

Our philosophy is that sharing knowledge empowers employers to make more informed decisions when dealing with workplace psychiatric injuries.

We have a range of ready-made presentations which can be tailored to your organisation or industry sector. If you’re interested in further education on Queensland law relating to workplace injuries, contact us.
